Dysart is located in the centre of the Bowen Basin which contains the largest coal reserves in Australia. This major coal-producing region contains one of the world’s largest deposits of bituminous coal. The Basin contains much of the known Permian coal resources in Queensland including virtually all of the known mineable prime coking coal used for steel production. See map in photos.
In the 2021 census, the locality of Dysart had a population of 2,918 people. The town also contains several large mining camps.
