For two years the owners scoured the vacant blocks in Coolum and surrounds looking for a block that offered views and proximity to the beach. Many blocks offered proximity without the views, others offered spectacular views but required the nimbleness of a mountain goat to access the property. After much searching it was determined that out of all the blocks they had seen this was the one that best satisfied the brief.
What resulted is an homage to the humble beach shack, stunning views along the coastline from Coolum to Sunshine Beach which sweep around to capture the hinterland whilst facilitating a short walk with board tucked neatly under your arm to ride a few waves.
Simplicity is at the heart of the design. Three pods separated by a central breezeway. It is about living a de-cluttered lifestyle where your quiver is at the front door, the biggest decision being which board is best suited to the break of today. The bonus being it is a short walk to the cafes and restaurants of Coolum should you not want to cook.
Designed by local architect Dragi Majstorovic with a beach lifestyle front of mind the home features locally-sourced hardwood timber flooring throughout. The beach theme continues in the living pod which includes the kitchen, with the splashback taken from an original photograph of the local Yaroomba wave by Nigel Aniston. The kitchen also features a dishwasher, generous-sized oven and gas stovetop with the lounge area immersed in the amazing views, the perfect place to kick back, have a few bites and a few sunset drinks whilst enjoying the vista of nearby breakers. Sheer curtains and blinds ensure privacy should the mood desire.
The master pod with ensuite and office also captures the views with the guest pod, located across the breezeway, situated behind the living area.
Downstairs is a large double garage and multi-use room which could easily be a kids hangout, bedroom to accommodate short-notice visitors, or utilize it for extra storage (of which the house isnt lacking).
The home has a 6 star energy efficiency rating featuring extensive insulation, solar electricity and solar water. Rainwater tanks can be utilized for toilets and the washing machine ensuring the footprint of this property is at the forefront of sustainability.
