This beautifully restored Queenslander is full of local history Please read the story on how 79 York Street got the name of Alliswell

The owners used to see this elderly gentleman out walking most afternoons and he would always stop and lean against the front fence of 79 York St. She assumed that he was tired and so stopped for a rest. One day she was in the front yard when this chap stopped as usual. She spoke to him and he said that during WWII he was based at an army barracks within eyesight of 79 York St. His job was to guard the perimeter of the barracks overnight and his shift finished at 5.30am. At 5.30 each morning, he used to see the light come on at 79 York Street and that was the signal that his shift was over. He was relieved that he had gotten through another night and “all is well”. When he was out on his afternoon walks in later life, he would stop in front of the house to say a prayer that all is well.
