This 3 bedroom cottage with water views is just a street from the beach at Cowan Cowan on Moreton Island. The beach at Cowan Cowan is closed to through vehicular traffic and is a safe haven for families and fishermen. “Destiny Bay” is quite basic but the BBQ deck and rolling lawns more than makes up for that! Destiny Bay Cowan Cowan MORETON ISLAND Rental Information & Conditions Moreton Island is a special and sensitive physical environment. As such the houses on Moreton Island virtually all are eco-friendly dwellings in order to minimize the impact on the environment and ecology. Accordingly, this is not your normal rental property. There are certain sensitivities which will need to be adhered to, to ensure you enjoy your stay. Have fun!! 1. SOLAR POWER This house is powered exclusively by Solar Power. As such the power supply & demand is finely balanced. Simply if the sun does not shine for a number of days there will be very little power. NO ADDITIONAL APPLIANCES ARE TO BE BROUGHT TO OR USED AT THE HOUSE. Non-compliance to this will result in a failure of the power system and costly maintenance. All Solar contractors are mainland based. Costs of any maintenance will be borne by the tenant. Toasters, hairdryers, coffee machines and bread makers are appliances based on heating elements and will cause the system to fail almost immediately. Do not bring them! Failure of the Solar system will result in no power whatsoever and accordingly all lights and the fridge will cease to work. 2. WATER This house runs exclusively on rainwater and bore water. Therefore you are asked to be water wise. That said there is generally plenty of water. Rainwater therefore potable water comes from the cold water taps in the kitchen and the inside bathroom. The bore water is high quality as it is sand filtered (albeit slightly tea tree coloured). A magnificent outside shower is under the tank stand. If the water supply is limited the Agent will advise you of the current levels. 3. SEPTIC SYSTEM The house runs a septic system. Thus aside of the toilet paper, if you have not eaten it first, it should not go down the toilet. Gentlemen please feel free to return nitrogen rich fluids to the soil, the trees will thank you. This again is a very sensitive system and we ask you to respect this simple rule. There is no septic pump out service available on the Island and you dont want to know what the owners have to do if there is a failure !!! 4. ACCOMMODATION The house accommodates 6 comfortably maximum 8. It has 3 double bedrooms with queen size beds. Please bring your own linen for these. There are 2 divans in the lounge room for kids if necessary, please ensure you have sheets to cover these or the kids have sleeping bags. 5. YARD / PARKING We love our yard & lawn and invite you to enjoy it. It is quite difficult to get and keep a good lawn cover on the Island and as such we ask that you do not drive or park on the grass (cars, boats, jet skis or trailers). The Agents keep a close eye on this. 6. BREAKAGES All breakages are to be reported to the Agent. Breakages happen and we are prepared to cop our fair share. We would like to make sure that there is enough plates, glasses etc for the next tenant so please let the Agent know if something bites the dust. Excessive breakages are recoverable from the tenant. 7. PHONE Landline & Mobiles The house has a landline which can be dialed into. No outward access is available. Mobiles may work at the house to varying levels dependant on the carrier. For best reception head to the top of the dunes. 8. SHED Not to be accessed by tenants for any reason. 9. VILLAGE RULES This is a small community. There are a set of Village Rules on the fridge, please read & adhere to them. They will give you a good idea of the dos & donts for Cowan Cowan. Important : If you are launching a boat from the beach at the Boat Club cutting, turn left (South) when you get on the beach. No other vehicle access to the beach in front of the township is allowed. Breach of this is sure to upset others in town and significant (+/- $350) fines apply. A car free beach is one of our greatest benefits and the townsfolk protect this vigorously. 10. PETS As Moreton Island is 98% National Park there is a prohibition on bringing pets to the Island. You may have seen or may see some dogs. These belong to the residents who have DNR permits to have them in town only. The Rangers know the local pets and $50 fines apply to others along with instructions to get the pet off the Island immediately. If you arrive with a pet the Agent will turn you around and send you home not just the pet – NO QUESTIONS ASKED. 11. FISH CLEANING We hope you catch plenty of fish! Please do not bring them home to clean & fillet them. The kitchen sink grey water empties onto the ground under the house and fish waste will stink the house out. Please clean your catch at the beach. The village rules ask that you do not do this in front of the township as this is the primary swimming beach for kids and fish frames attract sharks. 12. POST OCCUPATION CLEAN It is expected and appreciated that the house is left how you found it.
