The building design plans have been based on many hours of consultation with the companies that have out of town employees based in regional towns. This accommodation will be leased by the company for their employees.

Traditionally the accommodation that has been made available to workers is either a very small studio unit where they are completely isolated and have common areas where they have meals prepared with up to 100s of others (mining camps). These mining camps are generally located in an on location environment far away from town. Whilst the food available in these camps is generally well done it does not cater for special preferences.
There are also limited numbers of pub rooms / motel units available which have no common areas to socialise if they choose, besides being at the bar.

The other form of accommodation generally found is normally an existing residence that was designed for a country family but rented as is; to accommodate the workers without council approval for a commercial purpose. These residential houses traditionally have shared bathrooms, sound proofing and maintenance concerns. Some companies have found that not all employee’s find a close proximity environment appealing.
We have shown this plan to several companies and they have confirmed this is a preferred option to the other alternatives. They appreciate all employees have a fully contained purpose built bedroom and attached ensuite but also 2 common lounge rooms and external BBQ area. Another reason is employees enjoy going to food halls or the local pub but prefer to have the option to cook their own food if they want to. They are generally paid an extra $100 per week to assist with costs, but it still works out cheaper for the company.

This design also fits in well to a residential area in the middle of town as the buildings appear to be residential thus allowing them to be close to facilities
