Carefully sitting in a bushland site on Queensland’s Discovery Coast,
this little timber house exhibits a rich and direct experience of the site
and microclimate.
With economy in mind and a design enlightened client, modest
requirements were for a minimal but comfortable bush house to be
carefully nestled into a Melaleuca forest.
A house with compact internal accommodation attached to a
generous double height insect screened Bahama room – celebrating
outdoor living and its inextricable link to the natural landscape.
Roof planes welcome northern winter sun into the spaces whilst
the long thin ‘verandah’ type spaces encourage natural cross
ventilation.
The materiality of the modular timber box interiors are lined with
plywood sheet floors and walls. Interiors are kept spare and
essential to focus on the richness displayed outside.
