This expansive residence was designed and built in 1959 by the well-known firm Pender Architects for a local doctor, Dr J Abrahams, and his family.
Laid out over two separate titles and approx 4700sqm, the unique single-storey residence evokes feelings of the care-free 1950s and 60s well. A circular driveway takes you past the former tennis court to the front door.
Inside the double front doors, the living area is generously laid out over gleaming highly polished hardwood floors. Separate dining and loungerooms are located closeby a modernised kitchen featuring a walk-in pantry and in direct contrast to most contemporary kitchens there are cupboards everywhere. A nearby study has doors which open onto the rear of the double carport. The home’s sleeping quarters are to one side of the building and each of the four bedrooms has built-ins. The main bedroom has its own ensuite as well. Adjoined to the home on the opposite side of the building are separate living quarters featuring a double bedroom and a study. Louvred shutters control the sunlight in every room as well. Outside, the rear of the property is dominated by a large concrete saltwater swimming pool and entertainment area. Dr Abrahams purchased an adjoining block at the rear of his property to turn into a rose garden, but at present the land is maintained as a huge retreat.
The residence’s current owners have named it Villa Hermosa (Spanish for Beautiful Villa) and they couldn’t have chosen a better description.
