Restdown homestead was was originally built in the 1870′s, in a small town just outside West Wyalong in the NSW Riverina. Built from cypress pine drop logs, the home was carefully dismantled and relocated to its present idyllic location close to the beautiful village of Kangaroo Valley.
The use of modern insulation materials between the logs has allowed the cottage to keep its rustic appeal on the inside.
The recycled shed that was once the kitchen at Restdown, is used to house the battery bank and solar panels which generate power for the house. The water supply is tapped from a fresh water spring and is gravity fed via a water tank to the property.
There is a large open plan area that has a welcoming feel providing an ideal environment to gather round and share the pleasures of good conversation and home cooking or simply just to sit and relax taking in the quite.
There are two double bedrooms on the lower level plus a ladder is used to access the upstairs loft which has a floor created from recycled timber slats taken from an old Australian woodshed.
The bathroom walls are covered with second hand corrugated iron sheets and both the clawfoot bath and washstand are antique.
Outside is simply breathtaking, wake up and share that early morning cuppa on the verandah while soaking in the spectacular scenery.
To reconnect with nature and enjoy the awe-inspiring natural beauty, the quality boutique shops and the village cafe’s, Restdown in Kangaroo Valley is the perfect place for the secluded lifestyle or weekend getaway you have been looking for.
