Caboolture

Once a small town on the stagecoach route to Gympie – Now, Brisbane’s northern-most suburb is a thriving (but affordable) urban centre.

The population of Caboolture has doubled every ten years since the seventies, with small villages around the town now becoming major suburbs in their own right with this suburb identified as one of the State’s biggest growth centre.

If chain-stores aren’t your style, some of Brisbane’s best bargains can be found at the Caboolture Country Markets, held every Sunday (from 5am you can buy just about anything – from a tasty jam to a lawnmower engine) at the Showgrounds. The Showgrounds is also home to a historical village, where some of the town’s most famous buildings have been relocated and restored.

When talking about life in this part of the world, it’s hard to go past Caboolture’s proximity to boating and fishing in Moreton Bay, the surf beaches of the Sunshine Coast, and the beauty of the Glasshouse Mountains and Bribie Island – all within half an hour (or less!) of the town centre.

While Caboolture itself is growing at an enormous rate, the city centre itself has remain quite compact, with the shops, municipal buildings, clubs and town square clustered to the west of the train station. The larger shopping centres tend to be out of town, in Morayfield, which also boasts substantial industrial areas.

With a citytrain line providing an easy commute to Brisbane and a second railway line heading up to Gympie and Nambour, Caboolture’s convenience and affordability has sent the population soaring.
