Manoora is the third largest suburb of Cairns, with a population of 5604. It is located quite centrally in the City of Cairns, adjacent to Edge Hill, Manunda and Mooroobool. Manoora has recently been involved in Urban and Community Renewal Programs, run by the State and Local Governments, which focused on up-grading existing public housing stock, and improving community networks and services in the suburb. It also has a considerable amount of commercial activity, which attracts local residents and people from across the City. Manoora is centrally located about 13mins drive west of Cairns CBD.
The people
Manoora has the largest number of Indigenous people living in any suburb in the City, which includes a greater proportion of Torres Strait Islanders. It is a high rental household area, with the largest public housing estate outside of Brisbane.
