Fringed by towering blue gums and white gums and interspersed with pockets of coastal heath and grassland, King George Island lies just off the south-eastern coast of Tasmania near the Forestier :Peninsula

The island is a quiet gem with gently undulating topography and an attractive rocky shoreline. With views across Norfolk Bay looking towards Mount Wellington and located in Norfolk Bay at the head of King George Sound, it is a focal point of recreational sailing and fishing activities. The vegetation is predominantly light native bushland with blue gums and sheoaks the main trees as well as a few introduced macrocarpas.

Along the shoreline pacific gulls and kelp gulls pair up to breed each year. Sea eagles and wedge tail eagles also frequent the island. The surrounding waters provide excellent fishing and good shelter can be found in the bays and coves of the island in almost any weather.-

Perhaps that’s what the late Henry Baldwin felt when he last set foot on his beloved King George Island. Having an area of approx.. 19.83 hectares or 49 acres the island is located only 45 mins from the Hobart airport. There is an approved building envelope of 1.5 hectares. Conservation protection is in place to protect this magnificent haven. There are no services on the island; all services would have to be connected if a dwelling is to be constructed within the building envelope. Access would be by boat from Murdunna.
