HISTORY and LAYOUT:

There is some evidence the house was built with clay excavated from the site and made into bricks. The house is 2-storey but appears from the road to be single storey.

The house was converted into three flats in the early 1930′s. The downstairs section was separated and the upstairs section was split into two single bedroom flats. Some 1930′s features were added at this time, particularly ceilings in the upstairs flats. The laundry is separate and dates from the original house and the corrugated iron bathroom on the end of the upstairs verandah is thought to be original. The other upstairs bathroom was installed during the flat conversion.

The layout of the garden has not changed significantly from the original plan. The driveway, paths and some plants are in their original positions. There are a number of old roses and original fruit trees on the property.

Carinyah originally extended all the way to the Helena River (originally around 7000sqm). There are some remnants of the original garden in the river reserve.
