History
Originally known as Humphrey’s Farm and cleared in 1903, Mr Bill Ritchie purchased Bangaloe in 1960 on the advice of champion trainer Mr T J Smith and Mr Percy Sykes, a veterinary surgeon of world renown.
Mr T J Smith MBE (known as Tommy), dominated Sydney racing for over three decades, winning the Sydney Trainers’ Premiership every year between 1953 and 1985. His notable feats as a horse trainer included two Melbourne Cups, four Caulfield Cups, seven W.S. Cox Plates, six golden slippers and thirty five Australia Derbies.
Mr Bill Ritchie set an extraordinary record at Bangaloe, breeding no less than 77 individual winners on the property.
Grand Empress, Belmont park, Jewell Flight, Palace Lane, Perfect Dream, Coronet Flight, Bagelle, Sonar Belle, laughter and Scala were some of his winners.
Sires used included Luskin Star, Bletchingly, Baguette, Bold Aussie, Lunchtime and Lorenzaccio.
The current owner has owned Bangaloe for 28 years, and has run up to 40 horses on Bangaloe, variously breeding from and spelling the thoroughbreds in their team.
