Nearly 100 years old and of solid double brick construction, “Chilton” has been restored to its former glory.
It was built as a gift for the new wife of Mr Mowbray, one of the original land holders, when she emigrated from England. The Mowbray’s owned a major part of Adamstown at the turn of the 20th
Century and this home remained in the family until the mid 1990s. You can’t help but notice the charm as you walk through the leadlight entry door resplendent with the home’s moniker.
Fall in love with the original, polished floorboards, six inch skirting boards and original timber windows. The formal lounge has a remarkable ornate ceiling with grape motifs. The original fireplace remains with its rich timber mantle piece framing the perfect tiled hearth. Unlike most homes of this ilk, even in the bitter cold of winter, the gas heating embraces you like a loved one’s hug.
Merging the old with the new, the bathroom is fresh as is the kitchen. Caesarstone bench tops and stainless appliances, especially the gas cooktop positioned adjacent to the private entertaining area; it includes the ‘chef’ when guests pop by.
The bedrooms are of ample size with the third featuring the original Simplex woodstove, its not operational but it’s a wonderful reminder of the past. While the trains no longer roll past the back fence, you only have to jump the back fence to be on the Fernleigh Track. The yard is quite deep (612 square metres) to allow for future expansion with still room for a swimming pool if desired.
