According to documented church history, St James Presbyterian Church was oficially opened on this site on June 20th, 1895. (This was the third Presbyterian Church in Ulmarra. The first, established on the riverbank in 1863, was destroyed by the 1870 flood. The second, built to replace it, suffered it’s demise at the hands of riverbank erosion.) During the 1960′s an addition was built onto the rear of the buiding, providing a meeting or hall facility with functional kitchen and toilet facilities. Then in mid 2001, the building was restumped and received new roofing. 23 – 25 Coldstream Street is positioned just over 1 block from the Clarence River and surrounded by residences predominantly established during the first half of the 20th century. Ulmarra was originally a river port and is surrounded by some of the most fertile farmland in the Clarence Valley. Today, it remains a smaller community based village on either side of the Pacific Highway 13 km from Grafton and serviced by local infants/primary school, service stations, newsagency, hotel and a number of businesses influened by antique and craft related industry. Zoning of this property is Zone No. 2 (Village Zone) which, with council consent, provides for the development of land for residential, commercial, special and tourist use. Many similar buildings have been reconfigured and become some of the most beautiful and intriguing homes or business premises imaginable – this property would be no exception. And with 1,134 square metres of land, there is plenty of space for landscaped gardens, sheds or even further extensions.
