* Urbenville is a rural and timber based community, in old gold field’s territory, with a population of around 250 and is located just to the south of Woodenbong. The site of Urbenville is situated about half way between the villages of Tooloom and Woodenbong. Historically it was founded when William Urben, the first white child born at the Tooloom Gold Diggings, could not get agreement as to the placement of a butter factory or who would contribute to costs. He therefore built a factory at a creek crossing between the two towns, the site of which eventually became known as Urbenville after the townspeople voted and chose to remember William Urben. The original factory is no longer there though it was located on the now vacant corner next to the village hall.

* Urbenville, perched high on a Richmond Range plateau, is located at the headwaters of the mighty Clarence River in a very peaceful setting, and the numerous streams around Urbenville provide fishing, fossicking, canoeing and swimming opportunities. Furthermore Urbenville is a great base from which to explore the magnificent surrounding countryside that features several National Parks, State Forests and many other nature reserves, all rich in native flora and fauna.
