Sited atop Berry Mountain, is a rare find – a peaceful, private retreat with stunning panoramic views over the south coast. This unique and very private property, with its breathtaking views will surprise and entrance you.
In every direction a stunning vista opens encompassing mountains, coastal plains, the Pacific Ocean, Shoalhaven River, Jervis Bay and far horizon – from Gerringong in the north to Pigeon House Mountain in the south and beyond.
Berry Mountain Farm is a secluded eyrie of 86 acres that has been run as an organic fruit and vegetable farm for the past 27 years.
Over the years the owners have extended the original century old settler’s cottage into a large and gracious country homestead. By meticulously collecting timbers, doors and leadlight windows from historic buildings in Sydney they have created a unique, historically authentic home. Exquisite care has gone into every detail, from the rare flannel flower coloured glass in the windows and doors to the kitchen and bathroom with their timberwork handcrafted by a local artisan.
Near the orchard, there is a large shed with a cool room. Solar panels on the roof face north and feed into the power grid. Fresh water is provided by a local spring and a large water tank is hidden under the house.
Down a slope from the main house, along a road bordered by original 100 year old stone walls and tucked into the hillside, is a two-bedroom genuine 1840s slab cottage. ‘Mullengrove Cottage’ was moved piece by piece from a sheep station at Crookwell then lovingly rebuilt on its own private plateau of Berry Mountain Farm and has since provided a one of a kind holiday experience for many guests over the past 20 years. The varied uses of Mullengrove Cottage as a setting for films, advertising and fashion shoots, plus its high occupancy rates, attests to its uniqueness and its wide appeal.
“It’s been three decades of creating a vision,” say the owners, who moved to the property when their children were small and lived in the original historic cottage while planning its expansion. “You can see the rest of the world from here, but nobody can see you. You never get tired of just how beautiful the view is in every direction. There are such special moments when there are lightning storms out to sea, a sea fog rolls in or eagles glide past, and looking up at the stars from bed at night is just magical. Looking down on the coastal plain below is like watching a model train set with tiny cars and trains moving about.
“The breath-taking views, the peace and privacy and the wonderful homestead and historic cottage all combine to create a truly special place”. Inspection is by private appointment only.
