Turn off the highway just south of Berry and meander along a peaceful country lane bordered by green fields and grazing cattle to the rustic stone entrance to Stonecrop, seven acres of tranquil rural haven just seven minutes drive from the conveniences of Berry.

Down a shady driveway lined with evergreen alders and through an arched hedge lies an exquisite cottage garden, the four-bedroom rustic homestead surrounded by wrap-around verandahs and a stunning vista beyond over the valley to the Cambewarra escarpment.

On the ground floor of the two-storey timber homestead every room features high ceilings, period fittings and French doors opening onto the wide verandahs. On this level there are two large double bedrooms, the main bathroom with claw-foot bath and separate toilet, laundry, kitchen opening to an adjoining dining area and separate living area with open fireplace.

The spacious country kitchen is designed for entertaining and features a gas cooktop, fan-forced electric oven and dishwasher.
Upstairs is the gable-roofed master bedroom suite overlooking the lush valley views, with walk-in robe leading through to an en suite bathroom, plus another bedroom.

Beneath the house is a good-sized cellar currently used for storage that could readily be extended into a rumpus room. At the rear of the house is an outdoor terrace and space for outdoor seating.

The current owners reside in Sydney and have enjoyed Stonecrop as a tranquil weekend getaway, as well as allowing it to be used as a popular income producing holiday rental for others to enjoy.

We love the fact it’s so convenient to town, say the owners. When you are at the property you are completely secluded and never tire of the amazing outlook. It’s so quiet and peaceful but only seven minutes drive from the gate to Berry and 15 or 20 minutes drive to the beach. We also love that the house is north-facing, so the front verandah is sunny all day, year round.

We’ve particularly enjoyed all the regular fairs and shows on in Berry throughout the year and have made a lot of friends even though we don’t live here full-time. Berry is a very friendly place and we also have wonderful neighbours in the valley.

The current owners have also made significant improvements to the property, describing it as unloved’ when they purchased it. The entire garden was stripped out and replanted and the interior of the homestead renovated to impeccable standards.

There’s also amazing animal and birdlife here, say the owners, and the property borders Jaspers Creek, which is a lovely spot for kids to paddle.
There is also a dam (with nightly frog chorus), a double garage, large shed with power, electric fencing and a water tank with a system that switches to town water should the tank run dry. The delightful gardens surrounding the house include a variety of culinary herbs and abundant citrus trees including lemons, limes, oranges, mandarins and grapefruit.

As this property is currently used as holiday accommodation, please organise inspections well in advance during weekdays due to weekend bookings. Some weekends may be available, but search for Stonecrop on the Berry Getaways website to view availabilities as to avoid disappointment.
