The Settlement shops were built in 1874 by Frederick Hall who then sold the property to Henry Blackburn in 1881. Blackburn and Sons were the major store in the district, supplying every item from groceries to hardware, fashion to fuel.
In 1973 John Blackburn, grandson of Henry, transformed the old store into a complex of shops, restaurants, an art gallery, offices and flats which catered for a whole range of uses.
The shops are an iconic landmark in Milton and have been a sound investment for over 150 years.
