It was love at first sight when the owners first set eyes on this 18.5HA parcel of land over looking Lake George. An abundance of wildlife; swamp wallabies, echidnas, a variety of birds and lizards all had made their homes amongst the gums, wild flowers and native orchids. The owners approached Strine Design to produce a design for a spacious home that sat well within the untouched landscape and that was also environmentally friendly.
Now, two years later, when you drive up the winding driveway, leaving the crowds and noise of the city just thirty minutes behind you, an elegant home with the best view possible awaits you. The design of this rural executive residence is fully autonomous which has passive solar and is based on 5 identical 8 square metre modules constructed from insulated sandwich precast concrete panel walls with pyramidal roofs vented by solar chimneys. A state of the art solar photovoltaic electricity and solar evacuated tube hot water with an underground rainwater tank and waterless compost toilets ensure the total sustainability.
‘Lake George House’ represents the best of Australian design with Balinese pavilion spaces and early Australian homesteads as inspiration. These linked pavilions create highly functional living spaces including three bedrooms, the fourth being left open and used as a TV room, two bathrooms, a formal sitting room, a library and study. The open plan family/kitchen/dining area flows out to a northern terrace overlooking the phenomenal view of Lake George – the perfect place for entertaining.
The landscaping surrounding the home is low maintenance and low key. Guests are encouraged to take an early evening stroll to take in the tranquility and fresh air. A labyrinth based on a design from Avignion Cathedral in France was laid out to encourage those who visit to take their time and enjoy the sounds and sights of the natural bush setting.
To describe ‘Lake George House’ in two words one would say timeless and elegant – this is what those with a conscience dream of but few make a reality, now it is your chance to live the future in comfort and style.
