History of the property:
The Laurel Hill Blueberry Farm is an historic site, having hosted 3 different hotels on the front corner of the property from the 1860s to approx the 1960s. The first was a small weatherboard building with verandah; the second was a larger weatherboard building with two chimneys and the last was a brick building built on the same site. Photographs of these buildings will be passed on with the property to support it’s important early history.
It was also the staging stopover for Cob & Co Coaches and drivers and the original “Coachmen’s House” still stands in close proximity to the Pancake Pavilion. The Drivers slept at the back of the building in an alcove that includes 3 shelves. It has the original fireplace and iron roof – the walls are shiplapped hardwood timber. According to locals who either lived on the property or visited the hotels, there was a small general store and a post office at the front next to the hotel as well. A water race easement still exists over the land from when water was pumped from the creek, run across the property and down the side of the old road to provide water for the sawmill at the Laurel Hill Village.
