Situated on the New England Highway, Armidale is roughly halfway between the cities of Sydney and Brisbane, and a 2 hour drive from the coast. Armidale still retains many heritage buildings and is the home of the university of New England, which is known worldwide. It is principally a rural city producing some of the worlds best superfine wool. Rural production also includes cattle and lambs with many hobby farmers producing a diverse range of produce: Wool, breeds of goats for meat and fibre sale, alpacas, ostrich and emus for their fibre meat and oils. The region also produces a large variety of stone-fruits which are commercially marketed. Its population of around 26,000 live in a region with four distinct seasons and daytime temperatures ranging from 15 to 30 degrees in warmer months to 10 to 20 in cooler months. Bringing together a unique combination of rural Australia, National parks, University, shopping, and cultural life, Armidale is an ideal holiday destination. Within two hours drive of Armidale there are over twenty national park visitor areas. Around our beautiful town you can go bush- walking, fishing, fossicking, horse riding, canoeing, absailing or visit an Aboriginal site or craft shop.
