IRRIGATION FARM – CLOSE TO SERVICES.
Turkey lagoon is well balanced mixed farm with grazing lands, dryland farming and intense irrigation.
The property is watered with NSW Pindarri Dam licenses, overland catchments and domestically by a bores and stock dams.
It has a Zimmatic linear move irrigator installed in 2006 which waters an area of 140ha while a Lindsay Zimmatic centre pivot irrigates a further 28ha.
Water security is a feature of the property, which comes with four 972 megalitre licences and one 426ML licence from the regulated Macintyre River, plus water harvesting and high-flow entitlements. There is a ring tank of about 1000 megalitre capacity.
Aside from the cropping production, the present owners run a cattle backgrounding and finishing operation based on supplementary feeding with home-grown fodder. For this purpose, the property is well set up with large steel cattle yards with open trough feeding pens, plus hay sheds, elevated silos and silage bunkers.
The property comes with a spacious Queenslander homestead set in established gardens, plus a manager’s residence, workers’ accommodation and machinery shed/workshop.
SOILS:
Turkey Lagoon is mainly flat alluvial flood plain with heavy vertisols of grey and black soils.
About 566 hectares is developed for flood irrigation with new bankless channel design.
A further 168 hectares is watered with overhead irrigators.
Balance soils vary from box dryland faring soils to floodouts billabongs and soft grazing country with natural herbages in season.
