LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT
Built in 1881 “Mt Allen” a character filled weatherboard house has a rich history!
Starting out as a licensed Inn for the local workers (it still has its sandstone cellar under the house)! It soon became a guesthouse and remained so for 30 years.
In the 1940′s it was a children’s hotel and respite accommodation for orphans.
In the late 70′s it was sold to a family and has changed hands a number of times since then.
Now…..it is a lovely family home with 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
A wonderful light living room has northerly sun streaming
through and opens to a sun-drenched courtyard.
There is also a
second living area (perfect for quiet time).
The most important room in most family homes and the hub of the house, the kitchen, is reminiscent of the days when life was simple and there was time for making jams and bottling fruit!
It has the feel of a French Farmhouse with lovely original wide floorboards and ample room for the whole family to gather around while dinner is cooking.
Picture book windows overflow into a perfumed garden.
The current owners are artists and as you wander through you will see beautifully hand painted murals and quirky touches throughout.
The garden has its own treehouse – up a gnarly ancient Photinia!
There is an abundance of fruit trees, and specimen trees including Silver Birch, Tibetan Cherry Trees, Pistachios, Hazelnuts, Maples and rasberries are just a few of the cold climate plantings.
Mt Allen is a house with a huge heart! and is now just waiting for the next family to continue its rich and interesting journey.
P.S:
The Tarella Historical Society has the original Guestbook dated 1881 which shows Sir Henry Parkes as a guest on numerous occasions.
