The main house of Belthorpe was custom built in 1997 incorporating the old style of early Australian building.
Each room has French doors opening on to the bullnose verandahs which surround the home. Windows, doors and screens are hand made from cedar, doorknobs and window latched in keeping with the period. Floors are timber throughout, being treated with oil. Hand forged Iron curtain fixtures have been hung in the home accommodating heavy curtains for winter and viewed as a piece of art during the summer months when we like to bring the outside in and remove the curtains for the spectacular garden view. The ceilings are 9′ and light fittings are olde world elegance.
The kitchen consists of high benches and large iron utensil hanging rack, and Tasmanian Blackwood cupboards and plate racks.
The bathroom is large and elegant, consisting of a very large high Tasmanian Blackwood cabinet and beautiful handmade mirror. A 6’10″ romantic claw foot bath is the centre piece of the room, looking out to the beautiful valley views. The bathroom has French doors opening onto the verandah.
The main house is surrounded by a series of seven ponds which adds an ambience of serenity to the grounds. Waterfalls, constant trickling water, water lilies and fish are not only beautiful but form a vital tool in fire safety of the home.
There is more accommodation available on the property that is separate from the main residence. The building is fully self contained with kitchen, bathroom and 2 good size bedrooms. Its very private from the main residence and offers a great outlook across 2 dams.
The property contains an abundance of water which is harnessed for irrigation to various landscaping and vegetable gardens. Two large dams make up this great catchment and also supply fresh fish to the property (Silver Perch, Murray Cod and Bass). High capacity drinking water tanks are also located of each main residence.
Natural bush surrounds and forms part of the property with creek, sandstone caves, Waratahs, Christmas bush and native plants. There is a manmade walking track to the creek. The lower reaches of the creek has permanent and beautiful water pools. Waterfalls are present when it’s raining which can be heard from both the main house and the cabin. The property is surrounded and backs onto Parrs Bush National Park.
The land is suitable for any rural pursuit as it has open, rich arable grassland and also native bushland. The native bushland boasts numerous wildlife including resident Koloa’s that frequent the property from time to time. The bird life will provide music to your ears as the orchestra from king parrots, black cockatoos and kookaburras provide a soothing symphony.
Trees and plant life are plentiful on the property and not only provide beauty but are also able to be harvested. There is a main orchard which brings a fresh supply of custard apple, cherries, several varieties of apples, pear, peaches, pluits, plum, banana, hazelnut, avocado, macadamia, figs, bay trees. Grape vines surround the verandahs of the main house, and cabin, 24 vines in total around property of various varieties including the black Muscat from which each year we have made wine. A second orchard located below the cabin orange, cumquat, plum, peach, lemon, lemonade and mandarin. The third orchard is in the netted area closest to the large dam, houses raspberries en masse, grapefruit, apricot, plums, peach, fig tree and heir loom grape vine. This area also includes a round paved rose/flower garden and separate vegetable garden.
