Sentry Box Reach is a well known stretch of the Hawkesbury River, between Gunderman and Spencer.
What is not widely known is that is was so named by Governor Arthur Phillip when he explored the River. The name stems from a geological feature; a large obelisk of rock which has tumbled down from some point much higher up, millennia ago and fortuitously stopped in a somewhat vertical position right by the river. Its upright position and angular dimensions, looked to Governor Phillip and his party, from a distance, somewhat like a ‘sentry box’ as seen at a military installation or palace etc.
Generally, the landscape along the river was devoid of any real distinguishing features and this one was a good point of reference for the future.
The Sentry Box Rock is located on this special 10 acre deepwater riverfront property which is being offered. It stands alongside the most magnificent home for miles along the Hawkesbury.
Here is the most stunning contrast of culture and design. This masterpiece is a direct pluck from the cold and snowy climes of North America or even Europe; A lodge of grand proportions magically transported to the Australian riverfront bush and from a commanding position overlooking what is arguably Australia’s greatest river.
This home, the land, the caretaker’s cottage and the very large machinery shed and boating facilities and everything else on offer in this spectacular package, defies adequate description in words. I have installed a large number of photos and also refer you to the website of the designers and builders, Appalachian Log Homes, based it outer Sydney. Their web address is:-

When the owners chose this site to build, there were several criteria it had to meet. One of the first and of great importance was its accessibility from the sea by a large vessel. By large I mean thirty or forty metres (100 to 130 ft.) A small ship.
This location is only thirty kilometres from the sea, and there is no other location prior that offers the privateer access by both road and river to such a deep water berth of such grand proportions. There is NO private facility to match this!!
There is also a suitable area adjacent for helicopter landing.
This is a property, suitable for Sultans.
It can be inspected by appointment; and with suitable notice.
