Taking its name from local explorer and pioneer Henry Rhodes, the development is sited less than 1km from Tingalpa Creek, where from 1867, a horse drawn mail coach used to cross the ford at The Rocks. It was treacherous and could only be negotiated at low tide. Henry Rhodes supplied the fledgling Capalaba colony with badly-needed produce – to do this he had to cross Tingalpa Creek by bullock drawn dray. Sadly he died while attempting to cross the flooded creek in 1865. To honour Henry’s pioneering spirit, Rhodes is named in his memory.
