The Rectory was designed in 1887 by the Diocesan Architect of Brisbane, J.H. Buckeridge, who came to Australia highly recommended by the Archbishop of Canterbury. Today it is one of only a few surviving examples of his domestic work.
The home’s five bedrooms include two pool pavilions, one of which is self-contained, with its own bathroom and laundry/kitchenette. The main section of the house features a huge 50-foot-long entertaining area, which can be divided into three formal rooms by closing two sets of bi-fold doors.
Nearly all windows are full-height double hung sashes that also function as doorways and, when open, tend to blur the boundaries between inside and outside. This feeling of openness is further enhanced by lofty ceilings more than 12 feet high.
The beautifully landscaped gardens blend into natural bush, creating a peaceful environment where the only noise is birdsong. You might also be lucky enough to spot wallabies and the occasional escapee from a former deer farm nearby.
On the lower level is a six-car garage with remote controlled doors that could be further subdivided into a smaller garage and an entertainment/media room or additional bedrooms.
This majestic home would suit a growing family who values peace, tranquility and fresh country air, but requires a reasonable proximity to the Brisbane CBD.
