Speter Island Cattle Farm is right at the mouth of the Burdekin River alongside the holiday village of Groper Creek just 16km East of Home Hill. The 235.1ha (580 acre) freehold property spans from the mainland, across one of the many offshoots at the mouth of the Burdekin River and onto Speter Island.

A variety of pasture, including Rhodes, Urachloa and Marine Couch, maintains the 170 head Droughtmaster herd in good condition throughout most years. Two underground spears equipped with windmills, one on the island and one on the mainland, pump fresh water from just 2-3m. The main system supplies water to a 36,000l poly tank and 2 troughs as well as two 20,000l tanks for drinking water at the camp. The island system has a 9,000l poly tank and trough. The camp site consists of a couple of old caravans and has power to the toilet and shower block.

The property is boundary fenced, apart from the river, and has 3 paddocks on the mainland. Cattle cross at low tide to the island and back at will. Mustering is done by a combination of controlling the fresh water supply and molasses.

The quiet herd of cattle are included and consist of about 100 cows and calves, 30 steers to 12 months and 2 bulls. Also included are the portable steel yards consisting of about 60 galvanised panels, loading ramp, vet crush and calf cradle.

Groper Creek on the coast has about 50 houses, shop, jetty and a waterway which flows into deep water allowing access to the ocean. Both local and southern tourists visit each year to enjoy the relaxed living and abundant fishing and crabbing.
