Business Overview
Yarrill meats is a domestic processing facility with service kill and wholesale. Service kill customers range from Northern New England of NSW, Gold Coast, Toowoomba and Brisbane. We offer service freight back to the shops which assists in paying our running costs.
We also wholesale Beef, pork, lamb and sheep being a strong part of our business. We have a network of customers that buy these products from us each week with most sales on a standing order type relationship. We operate our boning room value adding carcasses into carton meat.
At present our kill is 100 – 150 head of beef each week, 500 lambs and 50 pigs. We have underutilised capacity and room to grow. With investment the plant could achieve much greater throughput. We feel that labour is becoming more abundant and with new markets opening now is a good time to grow the business.
Our family’s hands on management through Matt Gillece, Nick Gillece & Martin Gillece ensure the abattoir operates efficiently and a key to up keeping customer relationships.

Property: The property is described as Lot 244 on Registered Plan Number 910047 in the County of Bentinick and Parish of Stanthorpe and containing an area of 35.9518 ha with the Title Reference Number 50229002.
Situated: The property is located 4 K west of the Stanthorpe Post Office and Shopping Centre. It is in a small farming area with mostly small holdings either Hobby farms or small grazing/Rural Blocks Residential blocks. It would be classed as a well situated property.
Services: The Block enjoys a dual Bitumen road frontage with formed gravel internal road works. Power is connected as well as STD phone & Internet. Town water is connected to Abattoirs. Mail service is daily.
Approvals: Safefood Qld Accreditation No 118011-001 processing Beef, lamb, sheep & pork. Environmental Permit Number 1PDE01201708.
Land: The property is of Decomposed Granite Soils, slightly undulating with gentle fall to the south and the Creek. It is all cleared land with a small amount of surface rock and shade timber. Effluent is irrigated on the paddocks.
Water: The abattoir fronts Broadwater creek. There is an irrigation license for 2 ha from this. A 14 Meg dam is available for stock water, and irrigation. The abattoir is on town water with a large storage tank. Pressure water system delivers clean water around abattoir.
Settling Ponds: The effluent pond system consists of 4 ponds to capture all effluent water from the kill floor activities. Irrigation system in place to water paddocks.
Abattoir: The abattoir building has been added to, extended and remodelled over the years. This consists of dual purpose Killing floor for Beef, lamb, goat & pork. The product flows onto Cold-rooms for storage, than onto load out area. Offal room is separate and used to store and prepare offal’s to order. A load out area at truck level is where product is loaded onto trucks for delivery, and has access to scales for hanging product. The abattoir also hosts a small boning room. This is where carcasses can be broken down and vacuum packed if required. Carton storage is available for the processed product. A Freezer container is used to keep product in a frozen state.
Kill floor: The kill floor area is approx. 160 m2 and is plastered Brick walls, sloping concrete floors with cleaning trap. Bondor panel in some areas. Consists of a steel knocking box, Gravity feed stainless steel rail system, Hoisting winches, hooks, rollers, Hide puller, Gut trolleys and barrows, Buster 5 splitting saw, brisket saw, Scales, Pig Rumbler & Stunning equipment.
Offal cleaning and preparation area. Sterilised water is delivered to multiple points across kill floor.
Cold storage Skillion 204 m2: The abattoir has 4 Cold rooms with the capacity to hang 50, 40, 65 & 30 Beef Bodies. A further 2 storage rooms with capacity of 40 Quartered bodies each exists in adjoining rooms to load out area. The cold storage is mainly of Bondor Panels with the same panels used in the load out area.
Boning Room & Cold Room 224 m2: The actual boning room is prefabricated out of Bondor panel Lined and sealed, on a concrete slab floor and is complete with stainless steel work benches and work stations. There is 96 m2 Cold room Cold room under skillion roof of Bondor panel construction and concrete floor. Access to a 20ft freezer container.
Yards: The abattoir has sufficient yards for current kill. Undercover area for small stock with approx. half the yards concreted under foot. Balance packed gravel. Small stock are delivered by a V – restrainer.
Boiler Room & Rendering: Consists of 2 steam boilers and steriliser tank along with 1 pressure cooker. A second cooker is currently undergoing repairs. Overhead gantry system with spinning basket and tallow tank along with adequate tallow pumps. It also has Hammermill and a dry storage area for Meat Meal. Shed area approx. 400 m2.
Skins Shed: Skin Rumbler and sufficient area for skin packing and storage of pallets.
Hides Container: The hides are hung in a chilled container awaiting load out into bins.
Office / Amenities: There is a furnished office. 2 amenities blocks.
