Water is certainly what puts the Burdekin well ahead in cane production and this Haughton river bank farm is no exception.

Two 6 inch, electric driven, Kelly and Lewis centrifugal pumps on the river supply water from the 480 megalitre Sunwater allocation through underground pipelines to outlets at the paddocks.

The 64.8ha (160acre) farm includes a highset air conditioned home with three bedrooms, two bathrooms and two kitchens. There is a 30m x 12m steel framed fully enclosed shed beside the house on Shirbourne Road and a further 30m x 18m shed at the bank of the Haughton River which is ideal for machinery storage.

The farm has an excellent production record averaging 7,000 – 8,000 tonnes per year and a similar estimate for the 2015 season.

The vendor has recently spread mill mud on a large area of the farm with an excess of 15,000 tonnes applied in the last 2 years. This improves the fertility of the soil and greatly enhances production.

Town water is connected to the property which is only minutes away from facilities in Giru and only half an hour from Ayr or Townsville.
