This grand property could be described as the quintessential Springbrook property. A 3-storey Paddington Terrace on over 2 acres, and a mere 300m walk to the famous Purling Brook Falls. One of only 2 privately owned properties in the street, and the only one with Purling Brook flowing through, and with full water rights.

Yet only a 30 min drive to Robina, and 45 minutes to the beaches of Burleigh Heads, and set amidst original World Heritage, sub-tropical rainforest with the plethora of wildlife all around, bower birds, platypus, crayfish, goannas, possums, owls and parrots, birdsnest, stag and elk horn ferns, this private oasis is a true rainforest retreat.

You enter the property through wrought-iron gates, down a tree-lined driveway, and find heaps of open space and undercover parking.

On the ground floor is an entertainment lounge with fireplace, the formal dining room, kitchen and informal dining, bathroom with a sunken Roman bath, a sun-room to the east, and 2 patios looking out onto the fabulous lawns. Up a flight of stairs to three bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, all spacious rooms, then on up into the games room, or a 4th bedroom, with Juliette balconies facing east and west.

The ceilings are high throughout, and combined with the interesting floor plan creates the characteristic Paddington Terrace experience. A huge air conditioner provides reverse cycle air, although the house is naturally cool in summer, and there is gas heating as well.

The gardens and lawns are a beautiful blend of rainforest with a few exotic species providing colour and contrast. “We have all the watering devices on timers” says Paul, “We have plenty of rain, but during the dry months, we pump up from either the bore or the creek into holding tanks, which supply all our needs. We never run out. In fact, for drinking we have both filtered rainwater and spring water from 160 feet underground, which tests better than any bottled water with an ideal pH of between 7 and 8, and a second tank gravity fed to the house”.

Since purchasing the property, the owners have undertaken a complete refurbishment, both inside and out, restoring the overgrown gardens to park-like beauty and ease of management. “We have restored the massive 10 x 7m hardwood shed, which has provided important work and storage space. “This is an original hardwood construction with 4m ceilings, all we had to do really was to put a new roof on it.”

There is an enclosed organic veggie garden, a pump shed (housing both the bore and pump from the creek), and one should mention that the annual rates are affordable at $600 p.a.

“The convenience of living within 45 minutes of my work at Southport, and the utter privacy and tranquility our property affords, is what we will miss most”.
