Coomera and Upper Coomera mark the start of the northern growth corridor, which will extend to the outskirts of Brisbane. It is one of the Gold Coasts strongest growth areas.

The green light has been given for development of a major community shopping centre, located at Coomera near the existing rail station, which will contain 100,000 square metres of retail space, including public library and community centre. When completed this centre will rival Pacific Fair and all other shopping centres on the Gold Coast in size.

The population of the Coomera sub-region is growing in the order of 7.0%. The total labour force of the Coomera sub-region is 3,678 with lower unemployment rates than the Gold Coast average. Dominant economic activities are: Cultural and Recreational Services (theme park operations), Transport and Storage, Education and Marine Industry.
