Caloundra is at the southern end of the Sunshine coast, an hour’s drive north of Brisbane International Airport and 30 mins from the Sunshine Coast Airport. The Sunshine Coast is naturally refreshing, where you will experience a laid-back holiday feel centered around pristine beaches, refreshing freshwater rivers and lakes, subtropical forests and warm, relaxing sunshine.

‘Resort style living at home’ was the design brief given to Christopher Design for this award-winning home. Positioned on a 1180m2 corner allotment with 67m of canal frontage, this residence looks down four wide, glistening waterways giving every room in the home sublime water views from front to back. A meticulously maintained park incorporating a man-made beach with boardwalks is a stone’s throw from the home. Only leaving one neighbour to the West along the services side of the home making this a very private and unique canal residence.

The home was two years in the making with no expense spared and once you enter through the intercom-controlled gatehouse and into the entry court you instantly feel like you are in your own resort. The front garden is planted with lush tropical plants with a timber walkway and stepping-stones across the entry water feature that lead you to a leaf shaped entry pavilion, the roof of which is constructed of exposed timber rafters held up by large stacked stone pillars.

The huge timber and glass pivot door guides you into the entry pavilion showcasing a natural Egyptian stone floor. From the entry, you look into a central courtyard. containing an iconic water feature pool with a sandy beach, a large pandanus tree and sophisticated planter boxes that are engulfed by water.

To the right of the front elevation is the very spacious four-car garage with 2pac epoxy flooring. As you enter around to the left you pass a fully stocked home theatre room with floor to ceiling curtains, an eye-catching 3.2m x 1.9m screen and recessed LED lighting, giving a true theatre experience.
Adjacent to the home theatre room is the guest room which is externally accessed from the timber walkway, containing a resort style ensuite with timber veneer cabinetry and travertine tiles, boasting stunning views looking down the eastern canal.

Along the brush box timber floors, the hallway leads you past an exquisite home office with custom-made timber veneer joinery that curves seamlessly around the walls. The main wet edge pool provides the outlook from the office, complemented by views down the canal. The hallway has glass windows embedded into the floor where you can watch the water from the courtyard beach pass under your feet into the main pool.

The expansive main pool area has a gratuitous 12-person spa and daybed island with a garden island off to the side containing an impressive floodlit, 5.5m artificial palm as its feature.

The central living area of the home has a two-level high void with a curved bridge wrapping around with 5.8m high windows looking out past the outside terrace, tropical gardens and canal. This living area, along with the alluring bar area, open out into the main pool area creating a very real indoor-outdoor feel to the home.
The connection between the main living area and bar area is cleverly designed with beer on tap and café style seating leading you out onto the outdoor dining and teppanyaki cooking area surrounded by bi-fold doors that can be opened or closed depending on the weather. The feature plywood ceiling conceals a drop-down TV, featuring recessed circles with LED star lighting.

Further along the rear of the home past the inviting dining area and large, honed travertine tiles is the uniquely impressive chef’s kitchen, with its timber veneer cabinetry, backlit stone tops and inbuilt 1200L marine aquarium fully stocked with live coral and fish. Through a concealed flush door is the second kitchen where the real work takes place. This sumptuous kitchen area unlocks a stunning outdoor terrace complete with fire pit and luxurious inbuilt seating through a set of curved bi-folding doors.

The upper level of the home consists of 5 bedrooms including the luxurious master suite which contains a leaf shaped main bedroom area, with high exposed timber rafters, a built-in king-size island bed, a large open resort style ensuite, and an open style timber veneer walk in robe and bar area. The views from the master bedroom and balcony are expansive with canal views to the North, East and South.

Leaving the master suite turning right along the curved walkway leads to a separate gym pod. The views over the Northern and Eastern canals could be very distracting, whilst working out so be prepared!
A curved, concrete suspended bridge finished with timber brush box timber flooring leads through the central void onto a landing area. From here there are four more bedrooms, two towards the rear overlooking the canal and two towards to front over looking the park and northern canal.

Taking advantage of the allotments unique position is a timber decking built over the water giving spectacular views down the four canal waterways. Copper gas lit flares provide ambience for those evening gatherings.

Plenty of room to moor the boat or cruiser on the 14m pontoon allowing access to the protected waters of the Pumicestone Passage or maybe venture out for a day trip to the Moreton Island resort of Tangalooma.

This luxury residence boasts numerous building and design awards and has been featured on several TV shows and publications including Australia’s Best Homes Queensland Home Design & Living (issue 9), Grand Designs Australia and Sunshine Coast Homes on Channel 7.

The home has been designed in a way that epitomizes grandeur and size but allows for each carefully sculptured space to show off its own interesting and unique design and features.
