This coastal beach house adjacent to the beach incorporates a strong individual aesthetic and a diversity of building materials that are complemented by a pleasing to the eye mix of colour – sea blue, cherry red and steely charcoal.

An award winning contemporary masterpiec by Ric Nellar consists of three pavilions serving specific functions, that are interconnected by decks, a sunny courtyard, and the solid sleeper sweep from the high pedestrian gate to the main entry.

There is a feeling of light, space and cosiness in the split-level living pavilion that opens onto a mosaic of white and black washed river pebbles. To one side, the kitchen features composite stone flooring, Miele appliances, cherry pink bench tops, integrated appliances, servery to the sunny courtyard, and high bar servicing the upper lounge.

Timber floors feature in the angular central room with pitched raked ceiling and roofline windows showering natural light. An open fireplace sits on a textured stainless hearth. At one end the bar bench looks down into the sunken kitchen, and bifolding doors create a visual link to the deck and guest quarters.

The main lounge incorporates a dining alcove. Huge sliders access the wide front deck with a shutter-enclosed retreat at one end, and the suspended pool with colourful tile frieze and deck wraparound.

Off the central room is the master bedroom with private sunny deck, two bedrooms with trendy Roman blinds and huge fans, and the main aqua-shaded bathroom.

The two-level guest pavilion has polished timber floors through the lower lounge/living space, glass louvres, storage, separate toilet, and internal timber stairs that connect to the carpeted bedroom with his-and-hers robes, sunny patio deck with sea glimpses, and tiny aqua-mosaic tile bathroom with pedestal vanity.

Double garaging creates the third pavilion off Oriole Street that features a corrugated opaque mesh side wall, and rear opening into the small breezeway courtyard.

The overall appearance is a complementary mix of steel, panelboard, timber, glass and custom orb, in walled courtyard privacy that wraps around a corner location.
