Named by international wine critic Robert Parker Jr as one of the world’s greatest wine estates, Clarendon Vineyard and Winery is an ultra-premium offering set to attract enormous market interest globally. (Please also see our listings for the opulent White House and the Earth Shelter, from our Home Page).

Located at the northern end of South Australia’s famed McLaren Vale wine region, Clarendon Vineyard and Winery was established by Alan and David Hickinbotham in the early 1970s and has since produced fruit for some of the world’s most acclaimed wines including Penfolds Grange Hermitage and Hardy’s Eileen Hardy.

As one of the great Australian vineyards, it has also produced the popular Clarendon and Hickinbotham labels.

The estate spans 186 hectares (approximately 460 acres) and includes more than 83 hectares (205 acres) planted out to Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Grenache, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Viognier.

The gently undulating property incorporates a mixture of high quality dry-grown vines as well as irrigated vines watered from the property’s significant dams. The picturesque Onkaparinga River flows through the estate.

The property also features two magnificent homes – a 728 square metre stately stone mansion (known as The White House) designed by prominent architect Rob Cheesman and built to Alan Hickinbotham’s specifications in 1995, and the unique Earth Shelter House created by leading German architect Gerhard Schurer, which was once voted one of Australia’s best homes by Belle magazine.

There is also a small boutique winery on the property which continues to produce outstanding quality wines.

Considering the scale and natural beauty of the property combined with its international reputation as a producer of premier wine grapes, Clarendon Vineyard and Winery represents one of the most significant property opportunities in South Australian history.

The property, which spans five titles, is being sold as a whole but the separate sale of the homes may be considered.
