Homestead (House No. 1)
This delightful house could make the cover of Country Living! It is an exceptionally well built home with the distinctive and timeless appeal of Federation building style. All the rooms are well proportioned (actually, they are huge!) with quality features such as lofty 9′ ceilings, magnificent jarrah flooring throughout, solid timber doors, ornate architraving and tinted western red cedar windows. Through these windows you will truly appreciate the wonderment of the four seasons as the spectacular gardens change their colours and shapes.

A French combination slow combustion/open fire has been installed in a custom built fireplace. For ease and optimal comfort, there is also ducted reverse cycle air conditioning. The kitchen is classic limed timber with Corian benchtops and Miele appliances (oven, stove and dishwasher). The two bathrooms are modern and fully tiled; the main incorporates a luxury spa bath (jets suitably positioned for rain water!)

Doors opening from the main living area lead to an extensive sandstone paved outdoor living area which extends across the top of the circular underground 100,000 litre concrete rain water tank. Sheltered by an array of lovely trees, this beautiful space can be enjoyed on its own. However, walk to the balustrade and feel the “shock and awe” as you take in the professionally designed garden which gently slopes down via winding paths, garden beds and a levelled lawn area to the towering stone centrepiece, and the garden lake, complete with a boardwalk and stone walled fire pit area. It truly is a wonderful place to enjoy the peace and tranquility of this property!

The remainder of the grounds are mature and vibrant, with shrubs, roses and many mature English trees such as poplars, oak, alders, crab apple, tulip, linden and silver birch (including a copse of silver birch). The driveway is lined with London Planes and the first Oak hedge we have ever seen.

“The Cottage” (House No. 2)

The second house on the property enjoys unbelievably stunning views across the Onkaparinga Valley – just superb when relaxing inside or on the large entertaining deck! It too has a beautiful leafy garden setting with shrubs, mature English trees and a dedicated vegetable garden all protected by large conifer hedging.

The home is well appointed with a modern kitchen offering Technika oven, hot plates, Dishlex dishwasher, pantry and central workbench. There is a spacious, open plan living area surrounded by large glass windows to enjoy the view from every aspect. Year round comfort is guaranteed with a new slow combustion log fire and reverse cycle split system. There are two bedrooms and a study, the master bedroom with floor to ceiling built in robes. Polished timber floorboards flow throughout the house.

The circular driveway leads to undercover parking for two cars plus a lockable workshop. There is also a 40′ x 20′ shed with sliding doors at one end and a roller door at the other, great for a games room or Vintage cars perhaps! The home is protected by fire fighting sprinklers over the roof and 40,000 litres of rain water for household use is supplied from two tanks feeding from the large machinery shed.

The Cherry Trees
The income from this property is currently generated through the production of cherries. The current owners have, over 10 years, increased the number of trees from 2,000 to 2,700, with 22 varieties of cherry. Equally as important is that non-commercial varieties have been pulled out (and replaced by better yielding trees). In the next two years, income will be increased by around 15-20% from the new orchard of 400, 5 year-old cherry trees which will come into commercial production.

The two major orchards are permanently netted and the plantings have 4.2 metre rows with trees at two or three metre intervals to enhance light, airflow, ease of picking and sound overall management.

Cherry Tree Income
The cherry business has been transformed from a commercial wholesale operation to a “Pick Your Own” (PYO) business that supplies cherries directly from the tree to the consumer. The business is easier to manage with fewer staff, easier logistics and substantially lower costs.
The PYO concept has significantly increased the profitability of the business. Whilst there are thousands of visitors to the orchard during harvest, it is over a very short period of six to 7 weeks each year.

Marketing is managed in-house and has been structured in such a way that there is very little promotional o…
