The equestrian tradition lives on in this classic, long-established & majestic estate. Nanto Riding School originated in the 1960′s by Mr and Mrs Willoughby. It was the only Riding school in the area and became the foundation for many well known equestrians today. This horse lovers retreat was well known in equestrian circles and it was apparently visited by Princess Anne during one of the Royal Tours.

The indoor mnage was a local landmark, once being an aircraft hanger, it was an extraordinary luxury to ride indoors. Mr Willoughby would have his pupils riding around the arena and then stand in the middle cracking his stock whip to keep all the ponies going around. A method that would be frowned upon these days!! When not riding in the arena, trail rides were taken on bridle paths along Strathalbyn Road. Riding lessons was approximately $4.00 per session and Mrs. Willoughby sold iceblocks from the kitchen window.

Over the past 25 years extensive renovations and maintenance have been carried out on the property generating good pastures, excellent fencing and outstanding facilities to preserve this unique country holding.
