The owners built this house in 2003 to create their vision for a family home they could be proud to own. It began with an idea to buy an old villa & renovate. However it had to look as it had been standing there for 100 years; have the same character & charm. They found a superb opportunity to buy in Kensington Park; a beautiful tree-lined street, so close to great schools, a short walk to Norwood Parade & only 8 minutes to the city centre.

It was very important to maintain the old style. Polished brush box timber flooring, ornate cornices in every room, high skirting boards, 10′ ceilings, picture rails, bathrooms with claw bath tubs & tessellated tiles, quality brass fittings & tapware, timber windows & doors t/out, 2 functional gas fireplaces & chimney, leadlight, architraves, ceiling roses, etc. The wonderful thing is, they don’t have any problems with plumbing, electricity, wood rot etc & everything is new & functional. Even the fireplaces are conveniently gas – however still having the ambiance of an authentic wood fireplace.

Another reason the owners decided to build is because they wanted all the modern conveniences a young family needs for a trouble-free lifestyle. They designed this house with the busy working mother in mind – a large laundry with built-in ironing board, tons of cupboard space & the clothes-line right outside the door, and a garage which has the door leading straight into the kitchen. Remote controlled front gates a large walk-in pantry with wine rack & room for a second fridge or freezer. plus a kitchen to die for. It was important to have the kitchen, meals & family room operating as one big open plan to accommodate all the entertaining people like to do. The French doors leading to the back yard create a wonderful space for large parties.

They also utilised the high pitched roof and created a teenage retreat upstairs.
