Vendors Comments: Why I love my house.
This is the house in which I grew up. My parents built the house and we moved in in August 1962.
Old vineyards still surrounded the house and at sunset I watched hares playing amongst the vines while I was doing my homework. The high trees attracted an abundance of birds
Life at No 66 was always happy and we enjoyed the views of the garden as it developed, the closeness of the Belair National Park and the peace and quiet. My parents never wanted to live anywhere else and so in retirement built the freestanding garden room to use as an art studio and to accommodate relatives visiting from interstate.
My weekly visits to my parents since I married brought back memories of the many pleasures of the home and its location – the bus at the door, easy access shops and services, to tennis courts, the Belair golf course and long bush walks in the Park.
As an interior designer I have tried to express some of my love for this house by updating it to appeal to the home buyers of today.
The spacious rooms [unusual for this period of house design] have made it easy to achieve an open plan living/kitchen area and the ‘all white’ colour scheme emphasises the lushness of the surrounding garden, the natural light that fills every room and the tranquillity.
Number 66 is as much a house of the future as one of the past. The solid walls, north-south orientation, deciduous trees for summer shade and winter warmth, zoned heating and cooling and drip irrigated garden beds make this an eco-friendly place to live and to love.
