The seahorse is a unique creature that inspires intrigue. In August 2000 the doors were opened to the general public. In that time approximately 155,000 people have enjoyed their marine education experience. (Approximately 83,000 in the Port Adelaide facility since February 2007).
South Australia does not have a marine aquarium and therefore an opportunity exists to offer marine education not just to school children but also to families, seniors and of course the increasing amount of tourists to Adelaide.
The current facility at Port Adelaide is located in a prime position, in the Heritage Precinct (next to the Maritime Museum). The location boasts early maritime history, museums, dolphin boats and a thriving tourism trade. The location can only improve as the Land Management Corporation continues the development of the Port and surrounding areas.
The facility is open daily (closed Christmas Day) the general public is admitted from 11am-4pm and offered semi-guided tours. Coach groups, general interest groups and schools pre-book tours and are fully guided through the facility. During the winter months trading is Sunday to Friday.
