The Vineyard
Extract from our Vendor notes
We planted the vines in 2000 under an initial contract with D’Arenberg. This contract was extended until vintage 2008. Adam Jacobs from Vitiwise supervised the vineyard development and we have retained him as a consultant since.
Details of the vineyard are as follow:
Vineyard: Kebun Pelangi
Location: Lot 162 Rogers Rd Sellicks Hill (East of Culley Rd)
Variety: Shiraz 1654
Area: 8.3 acres
Trellis: Single Cordon
Pruning: Hand-spur
Soil: Red Urbrae Clay overlying limestone/siltstone
Irigation: Bore Water, subsurface drippers, Hydrosmart purification
Yield: Normaly 3.5 to 4 tonne/acre
The fruit has been made into Adam Jacob’s label Doc Adams, (prior to the Doc Adams deal, the fruit was contracted to D’Arenberg).
The vineyard is protected by windbreak plantings. An orchard area, some olives, and the domestic garden are all irrigated from the bore.
The Bore
The bore water is testing at around 1900ppm, which although high, is moderated by the use of a Hydrosmart unit. The vineyard is flourishing! The bore has a 4 ha water licence, with the allocation being 4.4mgl. Currently the owners have a carryover of 1.2meg from last season.
