First settled in 1904 and established as a grain growing region Galga’s original settlers fought drought, mice plagues and laboured long hours to turn virgin Mallee scrub into farming land to supply food for our nation. With the opening of the Karoonda/Waikerie railway line in 1915 the government was petitioned to survey town allotments at the Galga siding site. The original building was built in 1922 as a general store and it was within this year that the post office was moved into this building. Privately owned over the years the front of this store has had little change since its inception and is still recognised by many as the Galga Post Office and Store.
Renovated over the past decade the building has retained its timber lined internal walls floors and kept a rustic charm while developing a more comfortable accommodation option. The home features three bedrooms, bathroom, kitchen, large lounge, outdoor courtyard with open fireplace and earthen floor and an undercover outdoor entertaining area. There is plenty of yard space with an above ground pool (needing liner) in the back yard, and a massive 8m x 14m besser brick shed to store your collectables in.
This property abounds with history and lends itself as a country retreat, getaway holiday home and is currently being let out as accommodation.
A great historical building with plenty of options. Set your imagination free and write the next chapter in the book of life for this property.
