1.3 Hectare title overlooking Lake Barrington with 23 rows of mature vines planted between 1997 and 2001 in a prime tourism position being within several hundred metres of the Lake Barrington boating ramps and picnic grounds.
The location presents a great opportunity for the establishment of a small boutique label and seasonal cellar door, (STCA) to capture the tourism market, or simply a residence amongst the vines overlooking Lake Barrington to enjoy the setting. The vineyard represents a part of the now divided Lake Barrington Vineyard and was the second stage planting. The Vineyard is planted with three main varieties – Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Gewurztraminer with a small amount of Pinot Meunier (planted as a sparkling component) and Riesling.
Since 2006 the vineyard has been rigorously pruned, and changed from spur to cane (Guyot) pruning to restrict vigour and yields and maximise fruit quality. The vineyard has drip irrigation installed during establishment and in readiness for drier seasons, although the vines maturity and the past three seasons has meant it was not utilised. Water is provided for domestic and viticulture from a water lience (direct offtake) from Lake Barrington of 3 megalitres.
The vines have well established shelter belts protecting from prevailing southwesterly winds. The vines rows are trellised in a standard north-south aspect to capture all the daily sunshine hours. The vines are currently being pruned after the 2013 harvest, with the fruit from this season being harvested for cool climate sparkling wine or Methode Champenoise.
This is a small “Cool Climate” vineyard that already has proven itself capable of producing both highly regarded and award winning wines.
The sale does not include Plant and Equipment, but this option including machinery, bird nets, and sprays may be negotiated in addition to the vineyard site.
