The King Island Gem is a modern cosy motel located at Currie on King Island, home to
King Island Dairy and its world renown cheeses. The Gem Motel, the Regional Tourism
Award Winner 2002 (3.5 star), offers tranquil views across the coast hills towards the
Currie Lighthouse. This island paradise, with a population of only 2000, has many
beaches and logoons, cheese making, wildlife and nature reserves.
The Motel comprises 10 ensuite rooms accommodating 30 guests, All rooms have queen
size beds, telephone, heating, television and video player, mini bar, and tea and coffee
making facilities. There are also three A’ frame self-contained units, an undercover
barbecue area as well as a 4 bedroom owner’s / manager’s residence offering an office,
large kitchen/ living area, large lounge room, 2 car garage, and an industrial laundry
which is currently used for motel purposes. A large shed/workshop used to park the
buses also comprises a pit for vehicle maintenance.
The motel is situated on 4.8 acres of land leaving plenty of room for further development
(STCA).
