The property known as Fonthill was taken up in the 1830s and for many years forged a name as a well known wool growing property. The gracious Gothic style sandstone homestead overlooking much of the property is on 4 levels and the wonderful condition it is in today is testament to the quality of the construction.
This historic property over recent years has been transformed into a truly diverse operation. A successful eco-tourism business has been established that provides farm tours and other activities along with accommodation for nearly 60 guests. A well established Dorper breeding enterprise in excess of 1,000 ewes, 600 boar goats, and also some beef cattle also provide income to the property. Cereal crops have been grown and also approx 35 hectares of poppies. Limited amounts of irrigation water are available from a new bore on the property that is of mineral water quality and has a licensed business name.
