Well, here it is – a neat, tidy, well set-up and very well-presented little place that has everything you need in a simple weekender on Bruny Island.
Set on the hill above Alonnah, with views across the Channel to Adamsons Peak, the open-plan space has room for a double bed and dining table. The comfortable lounge can stay and the galley kitchen has a fridge, cupboards and benchtop space to put a portable cooker. The bathroom, with shower, basin and lavatory, is in a separate room. A single electric heater would be enough to warm the space.
The house is tucked away at the end of a good level driveway and there’s covered parking for one car – or for a boat, or maybe just a few outdoor chairs and a barbecue. There are two near-new storage sheds at the rear – a small metal garden shed and a spacious, weatherproof and secure storage container. Two plastic rainwater tanks and electric pump provide adequate supplies for the house.
An excellent feature are the many well-established native shrubs and trees that run along both sides of the block, providing privacy and shelter.
The owner calls it his ‘Three Step House’ – three steps from the lounge to the kitchen, three steps from the bed to the bathroom. But as the photos show, while it’s certainly small, this is a perfectly comfortable and liveable shack for a couple or a single person to move into right away, with nothing to do except pat yourself on the back for finding a Bruny Island property at an amazingly low price.
