This is what Steele’s Island is all about. This delightful piece of paradise with its magical natural charm, offers guests serenity and seclusion and the opportunity to relax, rejuvenate and refresh. The perfect place to spend time with family and friends, celebrate a special occasion, or perhaps meet with colleagues for corporate events.
Steel’s Island is a unique, relatively unknown island, located at the Carlton River Estuary, surrounded by sandy shores in the popular southern beaches area on the picturesque south east coast of Tasmania.
The island consists of seventeen acres of natural flora and fauna and is easily accessible by vehicle at all times of the year via a causeway and bridge.
Serenity, seclusion and privacy are created by a sheltered bay on one side of the island and the picturesque Carlton River Estuary, Carlton Bluff and Carlton Beach on the other. Hobart’s majestic Mount Wellington can be seen in the distance across Frederick Henry Bay, providing a truly scenic backdrop.
Breathtaking sunrises and sunsets, together with panoramic water views, create the perfect setting for an unforgettable experience with a partner, friends, family, fellow travellers or colleagues. All seasons can be enjoyed by couples or crowds at this idyllic location, which offers guests total privacy and exclusive use of the island and facilities.
Steele’s Island is located just twenty minutes from the airport, thirty five minutes from Hobart and fifty minutes from Port Arthur. Many other popular tourist attractions, fish and fruit farms, award winning wineries and restaurants are within easy driving distance. All local services are just a few minutes away in the seaside township of Dodges Ferry, consisting of a post office, pharmacy, supermarket and delicatessen, butcher, bakery, doctor, hair, beauty and massage salons, service station and take away shop.
The three dwellings on the island, a forty two square homestead and two small cottages, have been positioned to enjoy maximum privacy, sun and water views.
The accommodation business operating on the island has become well established over the last three years and is now operating at a high standard, having achieved an excellent reputation.
It has been the aim of the current owners, to continually improve the services and facilities available whilst finding a ‘niche’ for the island in tourism, accommodation, conference and weddings market. The ability to be versatile, diverse and flexible in business operations is crucial to survival and success.
Market research undertaken, coupled with current visitor trends, indicates that a unique, tourist venture can be created on the island that will blend with its natural features and complement both the archaeological and historical aspects, whilst offering visitors a range of ‘hospitality’ services and an ‘all-inclusive and engaging Tasmanian experience’.
