Circa 1830, Prospect House is a stone Georgian house built by William Rout. An impressive example of Colonial architecture, it enjoys high ceilings, ornate marble fire surrounds, cedar doors and bushranger shutters on the reveal of the windows. The windows and French doors are bordered with original Venetian coloured glass making a very interesting feature. The main living rooms incorporating a large lounge room, formal dining and kitchen (destroyed by fire) are located on the ground floor. The entrance hall is broad and from it a Cedar pine staircase leads up to the second floor which accommodates three large bedrooms (with fireplaces) and bathroom. Another staircase climbs to the attic which was originally the servants quarters and runs the entire length of the house, had three bedrooms and a fireplace where the servants did their cooking. Prospect House is steeped in history, standing proudly on a large allotment and capturing expansive views of the Derwent River, Mount Wellington and suburbs in between. This home awaits your inspection.
