Nestled one street away from the hub of Sorell Township, sits a house with an historic tale to tell. The front part of the house was built in 1840 and was the original post office run by the distinguished George Peacock. He was a man of well known connections in the community and Hobart town. As well as being the post master he also held the position of a magistrate and would often convene in the post office. Who knows what the walls could tell! Old George Peacock’s grave is in the grounds of a local church and the house lives on as a testament to history. The post office was gradually built onto and became a sprawling well maintained family residence boasting large rooms that allow light and expanse. Roses adorn some of the ceilings and there are many details that make this house a buyers dream. There are three wood heaters around the home and also a heat pump for more instant heat.

The kitchen has all the mod cons including a dishwasher, range hood and a pantry of humungous proportion but the main feature of the kitchen/sunroom is the outstanding view of the incredible gardens. They feature rose bushes, a weeping ornamental cherry tree, luscious lips, ferns, daisies, elderberries, lemons, oranges and so much more. The mysteries of the garden unfolds into glorious colour in spring. A bbq cabana set in amongst the main garden allows one to enjoy the ambience of the garden with friends. There is even an old lilac tree to greet you at the front of the house and a pretty cottage garden.

There are four separate garden areas and an archway takes you to another yard with shady trees, fern house mower shed and an old antique double carport. There is also an orchard with apples and apricots, a chook shed and storage shed. There is an electric gate and lots of parking space that gives a general feel of spaciousness and security. There is a sense of being in another world and yet being so close to everything you need in the town being just around the corner.
